Sunrise Flour Mill invites you to compete in the first annual Great American Pie Bake Off!

To celebrate the semiquincentennial anniversary of the signing of our country’s Declaration of Independence, we are challenging our community of bakers to submit their most mouthwatering, star-spangled pie for a chance to win free Heritage White Flour for a year!

From classic lattice pies to flaky hand pies, from adorable tarts to gorgeous gallettes, any and all types of pies are welcome in the Great American Pie Bake Off. Whether you go sweet or savory, silly or serious, what matters most is you celebrate your freedom by having as much fun as possible!

There’s one rule: your decorations must be edible. (Non-edible decorations like sparklers, lights, or props can be used only for presentation but should not dominate the design.)

There will be three winners of the Great American Pie Bake Off, with one winner of three distinct entry categories:

All American Dream

This award goes to the most over-the-top and inventive, U.S.A-themed pie. If Uncle Sam baked a pie, it would look like this. If you use pyrotechnics, be sure to first consult the safety manual, and please do not submit a bald eagle mince meat pie, because that is illegal and we will have to notify the authorities.

Blue Ribbon Spectacle

This award goes to the most thoughtfully designed, technically challenging, and beautifully baked "county fair” pie. For this pie, we want an experienced pie baker to give us a flaky crust, not crumbly, with even browning and neat edges. The pie should slice cleanly and hold its shape, and it should celebrate classic American flavors and traditions.

Small Town Pride

This award goes to the pie that incorporates the most interesting, locally sourced ingredients and recreates regional dishes that celebrate flavors from all across America. Find inspiration from the cubans of Miami to the coney dogs of Detroit, from the cheesesteaks of Philly to the briskets of Austin—show off your small town pride, from sea to shining sea.

Submissions open for the Great American Pie Bake Off on Saturday, June 13, and close on Tuesday, June 30. Sunrise Flour Mill will be sharing the finalists for each category on social media before the winners are announced on Saturday, July 4. Email at least one (1) video and two (2) photos of your pie, along with which category you’d like to be judged in and a short description of your bake, to americanpie@sunriseflourmill.com before midnight on Tuesday, June 30.

Here’s to amber waves of heritage grain and the beautiful American pies they help us bake.

Good luck!
