Heritage Biscuits and Gravy Recipe

Sunrise Flour Mill

Ingredients

  • One Box Heritage Drop Biscuit Mix

Gravy

  • 1 pound pork sausage
  • 2 Tablespoon + 1 teaspoon(s) Sunrise Flour Mill Heritage Pastry Flour.
  • 2 1/2 cups half and half or whole milk
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions

  1. Make the Heritage Drop Biscuits according to the directions on the back of the box.

  2. While the biscuits are in the oven, brown sausage in a large saucepan.

  3. Use a paper towel to blot out some of the grease from the pan, leaving about three tablespoons to mix with the flour. Make sure to leave the drippings in the pan. That’s what gives the gravy it’s flavor.

  4. Over medium heat, add flour and combine well with pan drippings until all the flour is incorporated. It will be quite thick. Cook the flour mixture for a few seconds.

  5. Slowly stir in half and half or milk, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens.

  6. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Why Heritage Wheat?

Most flour is milled from modern conventional wheat varieties developed specifically for increased yield. Heritage wheat is what came before them, and it behaves like a different ingredient.

  • Older wheat

Turkey Red and White Sonora are pre-1950s varieties, not the modern varieties most flour is milled from. Many find heritage wheat easier to digest.

  • Milled in small batches

Milled in Minnesota and shipped within days, with the milling date printed on every bag.

  • Nothing added

Certified organic and non-GMO, grown without glyphosate, never bleached or bromated.
